Castel Gandolfo, Castel Gandolfo Castel Gandolfo (8 940 abitanti) è un comune italiano della città metropolitana di Roma Capitale, nell'area dei Castelli Romani. Il centro abitato fa parte del circuito dei Borghi più belli d'Italia. È conosciuta soprattutto per la presenza della residenza estiva dei papi, alla quale fanno corona molte altre residenze estive, ville e villini edificati a partire dal XVII secolo. Il suo territorio include quasi tutto l'arco costiero del lago Albano con vista sul cono vulcanico di Monte Cavo, che ospita tra l'altro lo stadio olimpico di canottaggio del CONI. Vi sono inoltre vari luoghi di interesse archeologico (tra cui l'emissario del lago Albano e i resti della villa albana di Domiziano), naturalistico (essendo la zona inclusa nel perimetro del parco regionale dei Castelli Romani) e artistico (come la collegiata pontificia di San Tommaso da Villanova edificata da Gian Lorenzo Bernini).
