Chamrajpet, BengaluruChamarajpete is a locality in the central part of the city of Bengaluru. It is bordered by Basavanagudi, Banashankari, Chickpete and Majestic. Chamarajpete is one of the oldest areas in Bengaluru. 2.9 km from Bengaluru City Railway Station and BMTC, and 37.1 km to Kempegowda International airport. The main commercial street of Chamrajpete is the Bazar street and the continuation of which is the popular Bull Temple Road. Chamarajapete was founded in 1892 and the 125 years of the area was celebrated with a 3 day festival in the year 2017. Chamarajapete houses many historical sites such as the Kote Sri Prasanna Venkateshwara Swamy Temple, The Fort High School, Tippu Sultan Summer Palace, Minto hospital to name a few. Raghavendra colony, situated in this unblemished area has a historical connection to the Maharaja of Mysore who visited here to visit Bengaluru's first-ever surgeon- Dr. B. D. Raghavendra Rao. Sripadharaja mutt of Mulbagal is in Raghavendra colony. The locality got the name "Chamarajpete" because of the visit by Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar. The locality derived its name from the then Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar. It was originally named Chamarajendra Pete and was later shortened to Chamarajpete.The area becomes musical every year during the Months of April and May i.e in the Rama Navami season. Sree Ramaseva Mandali RCT one of the premier cultural organizations of the country organized it's an annual global music festival in the grounds of Fort High School which hosts the who's who of Indian Classical Music. The area is also home to many companies into agarbathis (incense sticks) and related items. The area is composed of five main roads and more than nine crossroads. A temple is located on every main road. The layout was referred to as the Chess Box Colony, given that when they were originally built, they all had square dimensions of 108 by 108 feet, that looked like chess boards.
