    Location: Cobb, Atlanta

    Chattahoochee Plantation, Cobb
Chattahoochee Plantation, CobbChattahoochee Plantation is an area of east-southeastern Cobb County, Georgia, United States which was incorporated as a city in 1961 as a legislated boundary to prevent the city of Atlanta from annexing into Cobb County. Despite this, it never organized a city government, and its city charter was revoked along with dozens of others in 1995. The "city" was only ten feet wide and approximately seven miles long. In 1989, an attempt was made by residents of the large city of Sandy Springs, just across the Chattahoochee River in Fulton County, to have their area annexed by Chattahoochee Plantation. This, like other attempts to gain city status, was defeated. Tom Murphy, who was speaker of the house in the Georgia General Assembly at the time, blocked the measure. In December 2005, Sandy Springs residents finally won this battle and the city was incorporated, making it one of the largest cities in Georgia. Chattahoochee Plantation is centered at 33°56'30"N, 84°24'48"W (33.9417, -84.4133), according to the USGS GNIS. The main road through the area is Johnson Ferry Road, with Paper Mill Road and Columns Drive also being significant.
